A workday –
Repairing the fence

This is the perfect way to experience an authentic part of a faroese sheep farmers workday. As the sheep are grazing up in the mountains, and the area is quite large, there are surtain hedging and fencing regulations that every sheepfarmer has a duty to keep boundary fences in repare.

Therefor repairing and setting up new fences also are a very important part of preparing the outfield for the upcoming season, when we go up to the mountains in sept./oct. in order to gather all the sheep, and drive them down to our sheepfold. The quality and conditions of the fences are of great importance, if the sheepgathering in the autum-time, shall be successful.

We will carrie fence posts and the equipment we need, with us, and together inspect the “old” fenc as we walk along the already existing fence, and make the needed improvements.

The fence is located up on the mountansite, so this is as well as a “hands on” experience, also a great opportunity to take in the breathtaking view over the fjord, and on a good day, we can see all the way to Nólsoy, the little island just outside Tórshavn.
